Crystal Russell, LCSW
Crystal Russell has always wanted to help people. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with a major in Community Health, intending to become a doctor or nurse. But, just before her senior year, she had an epiphany. As she made her rounds during a nursing internship at New York Methodist Hospital, she realized that healing the body wasn’t enough. These experiences lead her to pursue an MSW from Adelphi University. As a social worker, Crystal appreciates that she is able to work with the full complexity of a client in ways that are more fulfilling than her work as a medical health care provider did.
She is experienced in work with individuals, couples, and families. In particular, Crystal has spent a number of years working with Veterans and those with a need for collaboration among other healthcare providers. Her collaborative work has also found success for those dealing with chronic pain and pelvic pain disorders.
Crystal is uniquely trained and practiced as a PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator. PREPARE is a leading premarital counseling assessment and bonding enhancement intervention. ENRICH is the parallel program for already established couples looking to strengthen their relationship. She has also achieved Levels 1 and 2 of the Gottman Couples Therapy Method. Utilizing this approach, couples will learn more about each other, how they can better interact with their relationship, and how to weather the storms.
As a therapist, Crystal engages clients in exploring their environments and relationships to improve overall well-being. She also engages clients with an intersectional lens, especially as it relates to race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Throughout her work, she knows everyone has their own unique skills and resources that are built upon in therapy.
